Changes but still hugely competitive - Huddersfield Town's predicted XI to face Nottingham Forest

Doing a Huddersfield Town predicted XI is not as easy as it used to be thanks to the level of everyone in the squad. Doing one for this FA Cup tie is even harder as there will definitely need to be some rotation.

The Terriers’ dance card isn’t as full as some but even after a Friday night stroll against Peterborough there still needs to be a couple rested with an eye on next week. Town come away from Nottingham on Monday and then face a trip to West Brom Friday, another to Millwall five days later, and then either Liverpool in the cup or Bournemouth in the league that weekend.

Carlos Corberan spent his pre-game press conference making a point that he was only focused on this game and not thinking about that possible Liverpool game ahead. He also said their objective is to be competitive in every game. What does that mean here? Likely a few changes but a strong spine.

Jamal Blackman has all but been confirmed to start in goal so let’s put him in here. That’s only about giving Lee Nicholls a couple of days off, and the best goalkeeper in the Championship probably deserves it (although likely would prefer to play).

Defensively then Town are without Levi Colwill and have a choice to make. I think they go with a 3-4-3 despite the success they’ve had with a four. Forest are dangerous, that 1-0 win at the City Ground was priceless for Town but did come via some ruinous finishing from the Tricky Trees (best nickname in football).

Forest have been on a march in the FA Cup in particular and as the home side will play on the front foot. Town have played a back three home and away to them this season and likely Forest will have two up front or a nine and a ten that plays so close to him he may as well be a nine and a half.
