Championship wrap: Will Keane hits winner for Preston

Republic of Ireland striker Will Keane scored the only goal as Preston made a winning start to life under new manager Paul Heckingbottom at home to Luton Town.

Keane bagged his first goal of the season in the 39th minute to secure three points against one of the Championship's favourites for promotion in Heckingbottom’s first game since being named as Ryan Lowe’s replacement.

His international teammate Cheidozie Ogbene should have given the visitors the lead a few minutes earlier, doing brilliantly to jink his way into the box but failed to hit the target with a poorly-placed finish.

Kaine Kesler-Hayden found the overlapping Emil Riis with a delightfully timed back-heel and he knocked the ball inside for Keane, who drilled low across James Shea with his second touch.

Sunderland stopped free-scoring Burnley in their tracks at the Stadium of Light by making it three wins from three in the Sky Bet Championship.

Despite agreeing to sell winger Jack Clarke to Ipswich, the Black Cats secured maximum points through a goal from his replacement on the wing, Romaine Mundle.

The 21-year-old has been waiting for his big chance since arriving from Standard Liege in February, and he impressed a crowd of more than 40,000 with a display that included a wonderful 26th minute finish.

That proved the difference as Sunderland, who have won all three league games with clean sheets under new head coach Regis Le Bris, frustrated Burnley.

West Brom continued their unbeaten start to the season as they claimed their second successive away victory in a 2-1 triumph at Stoke.

A frantic first half saw the Baggies take the lead through Karlan Grant before the hosts levelled the game after on-loan Liverpool man Lewis Koumas netted on his home debut.
