Cesc Fabregas has already given Inter Milan Rasmus Hojlund transfer green light

It is well established by now that one of Manchester United's main priorities this summer is to sign a new centre-forward.

United managed just 44 goals in the Premier League last season, with only Everton and the three relegated clubs scoring fewer than Ruben Amorim's side.

United have moved quickly to address that issue by signing 17-goal Matheus Cunha from Wolves and targeting a move for 20-goal Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo.

Those two players would fill the two attacking midfield roles in Amorim' 3-4-2-1 system but he is still keen to sign a new forward amid the struggles of both Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund, who managed just seven league goals between them this term.

And should a new forward arrive it is almost certain one of those players will move on so it wasn't a major surprise to learn of Inter Milan's interest in Hojlund.

The 22-year-old has come in for criticism for his lack of goals since his £72million move from Atalanta in the summer of 2023 and a move back to Serie A could be the reboot his career needs.

Inter are setting about a rebuild after being thrashed 5-0 in the Champions League final by PSG on Saturday and relinquishing their Serie A title to Napoli.

Manager Simone Inzaghi has left the club this week and is expected to become the new manager of Saudi club Al-Hilal.

That means there is a vacancy at the San Siro and Como manager, and former Arsenal and Chelsea star, Cesc Fabregas has been touted as a possible successor to Inzaghi.

Fabregas has earned plaudits for the job he has done as manager of Como, guiding the club to promotion to Serie A last season before steering his side to a top half finish in their first season in the Italian top flight.
