Celtic will have to offer a ‘big package’ to sign Antoine Semenyo from Bristol City

Celtic are going to have to offer a ‘big package’ to prise striker Antoine Semenyo away from Bristol City, according to journalist Dean Jones.

Ange Postecoglou has made several exciting acquisitions since arriving at Parkhead last summer and could be set to continue the overhaul of his first-team squad in the summer.

According to Bristol World, Craig Strachan, son of former Celtic boss Gordon, was sent on a scouting mission to assess Semenyo’s ability in their recent 2-1 victory over Reading.

The 22-year-old netted the opening goal against the Royals and has reportedly been attracting admiring glances from the Premier League following a string of eye-catching performances.

However, Robins boss Nigel Pearson has already issued a warning to any potential suitor, claiming his prized asset will cost ‘an awful lot of dough’.

“We’re very glad we have him, and if somebody else wants him, he’s going to cost them an awful lot of dough, so keep your hands off. We’ve got him for two-and-a-half years,” he said.

Semenyo currently has 18 months remaining on his current contract with the option to extend his stay by another 12 months, leaving Bristol in a strong position around the negotiating table.

The electric forward has established himself as one of the brightest prospects in the Championship after rising through the ranks at his boyhood club.

In 85 appearances for Bristol, Semenyo has scored 10 goals and provided 15 assists but he’s currently enjoying an extremely hot streak of form.
