Ask any Celtic or Rangers player past or present what it is like in Glasgow away from the football and they will tell you the same thing - 'It's just madness'.

The goldfish bowl in the city is like nothing else in world football with second place deemed failure. It is a unique place for the players and managers as whatever team is winning the trophies and top of the league is flying and doing well but just a few miles away the pressure is always building on the rival across the city.

This season it all began with Rangers after their slow start under Michael Beale. The fans made their feelings known after a poor opening to the campaign and a hammering in the Champions League qualifiers - it was out with Beale and in with Philippe Clement. The Belgian was brought on board and charged with changing the fortunes in Govan. Fast forward to now and he's got his side top of the league, the League Cup in the cabinet and both the Europa League and Scottish Cup to play for.

However, after dropping to second and a few draws along the way in recent weeks, the pressure shift is now on Brendan Rodgers and his troops. James Maxwell may well have not experienced the full degree of the madness after not turning out for the first team at Ibrox. But he know just how intense Glasgow is for football - and everything that comes with it off the park.

Maxwell - who had loan spells at Ayr United and Queen of the South - is now on the books at Doncaster Rovers in England's League Two. It's a major difference to what he experienced up the road - despite his lack of top team action - as he opened up on Old Firm rivalry to the Doncaster Free Press.
