Celtic transfer state of play as Spurs insider questions Jota intel and Tiago Araujo deal brings hefty Benfica tax

Jota has been told he ISN'T one of the Celtic stars Ange Postecoglou was likely to bring to Tottenham.

And yet the Portuguese winger could be offered a transfer lifeline from his former Australian boss after the 24-year-old's adventure to Al-Ittihad and the Middle East looks set to end in acrimonious. Jota was brought in on a £25million promise by Nuno Espirito Santo in June, but due to an over-indulgence from the Pro League side on foreign players such as Karim Benzema and Fabinho, the trickster has been forced to feature only in AFC Champions League games for the Tigers.

The Parkhead hero looks set for the exit door in January and Postecoglou's London haven has emerged as a potential next destination. Yet Spurs insider Alasdair Gold reckons there were none of the Celtic persuasion who would've tipped the former Benfica man to be poached by the Aussie for a move to the Premier League.

He said on the Gold and Guest Talk podcast: “Jota makes sense for me, but I did find it interesting when speaking to people in and around Celtic when Postecoglou came I asked which players should he bring with him and Jota wasn’t on their list. I don’t know if that was a feeling that he couldn’t make it in the Premier League.

"He scored a lot of goals and got a lot of assists in the Scottish Premiership. Whether there was any doubts over that, he's gone to the Saudi Pro League under Nuno back then before he got the bullet. He's found himself out of the team, you're only allowed to register eight players and he wasn't registered. He's gone there for £25million from Celtic, played the first few games and now he can only play in Asian Champions League games and cups and things like that.
