Celtic transfer state of play as Jamie Vardy holds unlikely key to Idah move and latest on Buonanotte and Tessmann

Celtic's pursuit of an Adam Idah return goes on - and Jamie Vardy could hold the first domino to fall in unlocking the deal.

Brendan Rodgers has no senior option outside of Kyogo up front and it seems the club have put most of their eggs in the Idah basket after his impressive loan spell last season. His goalscoring form at Parkhead has seen Norwich jack the price up and reports suggest their demands are now in the region of £8m - something Celtic are keen to negotiate down.

Idah was given the squad number 11 for the coming season, the same shirt number he held last season and an indicator boss Johannes Hoff Thorup is planning for life with the Ireland cap. However, the latest down south is that they are closing in on Leicester's Tom Cannon - which would potentially see Idah made available, given Ashley Barnes and Josh Sargent are both competing with him for minutes as things stand.

It's reported they want a loan deal for Cannon but Sheffield United and West Bromwich Albion are both also keen. Leicester, however, are waiting until Jamie Vardy recovers from injury before sanctioning an exit for Cannon, with Patson Daka the only other centre-forward available.

Meanwhile it's being reported that Celtic are battling it out with Southampton to sign Brighton forward Facundo Buonanotte. That one comes from Dutch outlet Algemeen Dagblad, who have been reported on Feyenoord's interest in the 19-year-old, and say the Eredevisie side are now out of the race after failing to negotiate a loan move.
