Celtic told what Champions League 'failure' looks like by Treble winning hero as Brendan Rodgers set non negotiable

Brendan Rodgers has been told he WILL have to change Celtic's approach away from home in the Champions League - and that anything less than qualifying for the knockout stage would be a failure.

The Hoops kicked off their bid at Europe's top table with a five-star show at home to Slovan Bratislava but it was a night to forget on matchday two in Germany as the Scottish champions lost out 7-1 to Borussia Dortmund. The German giants showed a ruthless streak in their own backyard as they sent the Parkhead side home with real lessons to be learned.

Alan Stubbs reckons one of the key things to come out of the heavy defeat will be the tactical side of the game. He believes Rodgers will have to change how he takes on opponents at the top level, particularly on the road with Atalanta up next following the international break. He is happy for Celtic to play that front-footed style in Glasgow's east end but reckons things need to change up when they go on their travels.

He told BestBettingSites.com "Even though Brendan said he won’t change his approach, I think he will change it slightly when Celtic play away from home. They can play beautiful, front-footed football at Celtic Park, there’s no doubt about that, but when they go away from home, I do think his approach will be slightly different. It will have to be."

The new format of the Champions League means clubs between position 1 and 24 qualify for the knockout rounds. Those from top spot to eighth automatically go into the last 16 with clubs ranked 9-24 entering a play-off clash. The clubs will face off in a two-legged tie to determine who joins the already qualified top eight.
