Celtic sent Kasper Schmeichel transfer pitch as goalkeeper breaks silence on 'ultimate' next step

Former Leicester defender Robert Huth has told Celtic they would still be bringing in a top goalkeeper if they landed Kasper Schmeichel - as the free agent offered a hint on his future.

The Scottish Premiership champions are in dire need of a new No. 1 after Joe Hart hung up his gloves at the end of last season, with Scott Bain and Benjamin Siegirst the two recognised goalkeepers that Brendan Rodgers can turn to between the sticks going into the new campaign. Celtic have also been linked with a move for his fellow countryman Schmeichel - who Rodgers worked with the during his time at the Foxes. The Irishman refused to be drawn on a potential reunion with the 37-year-old in Glasgow's east end following the pre-season friendly with Ayr United, but Huth has talked up his old pal to his former boss.

He told the Leicester Mercury: "Kasper must be around 54 years old by now surely! We saw at Euro 2024, he’s still a very good goalkeeper. If he has anything left of that ability that he had at Leicester then I think it would be a great signing for anyone. I love Kasper, he’s a great character. I always got on with him."
