Celtic 'might have the edge' in bid to secure major £10m deal

The fact Celtic have given Cameron Carter-Vickers the opportunity to play regularly this season should improve their chances of signing him permanently, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The American defender is currently on loan with the Scottish Premiership leaders but he is attracting plenty of interest from the Premier League.

While Celtic are firmly in the race to sign the 24-year-old this summer, there chances of turning his loan into a permanent one have become slightly problematic due to a number of top-flight admirers.

According to SBI Soccer, Leicester, Wolves, Watford and Bournemouth, where Carter-Vickers previously spent time on loan, are all in the running for the centre-back, who’ll have just 12 months left on his Tottenham contract at the end of this season.

However, Celtic are still hoping to beat off competition from those English sides, with the Daily Record reporting in November that it’ll cost them around £10m to sign Carter-Vickers in what would be one of their most expensive transfers ever.

Carter-Vickers has played a major part for Celtic this season, helping them win the Scottish League Cup, which has put them on course for a domestic treble.

In total, he has made 37 appearances, establishing himself as a key part of Ange Postecoglou’s defence, which O’Rourke reckons will give the Glasgow giants the edge in the hunt for his signature.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “Because of his top performances, it might give them the edge of securing Carter-Vickers’ signature on a permanent basis this summer.”
