Celtic midfielder attracting Liverpool and Arsenal interest 'set for new long-term deal'

East Kilbride youngster Daniel Kelly is set to sign a new long-term professional deal with Celtic amid interest from a host of top English clubs, including Liverpool and Arsenal.

The 16-year-old midfielder - the godson of Hoops hero Scott McDonald - made his debut in men's football this season for the Hoops' B team in the Lowland League. He came off the bench to set up the third goal in a 4-2 win over Broomhill in January.

And it is being reported he will sign a three-year professional contract with the Parkhead side this week.

Daily Record report that the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal have been "circling", with Manchester City, Newcastle United and Crystal Palace also showing interest.

However, it is understood the talented teen's desire is to remain with the Hoops and continue his progression in Scotland.

It's not the first time Kelly has been in high demand.

In June 2020 Lanarkshire Live Sport revealed Kelly, then 14, turned down a host of big clubs - including Benfica - to sign a bumper pre-professional contract to stay in Glasgow at Celtic.

The former St Leonards Primary School pupil first caught the eye of Celtic playing above his age group for East Kilbride Caledonian Thistle's 2004 team and he is going from strength to strength as he aims to be the next big youngster to progress to Ange Postecoglou's first-team setup.

He has so far followed the successful St Ninian's High School programme that helped bring the likes of Kieran Tierney and Mikey Johnston to prominence at Parkhead in recent years.
