Celtic: 'Massive blow' for Postecoglou before RB Leipzig clash at Parkhead

Celtic being without Jota would be a “massive blow” to their chances of getting a positive result against RB Leipzig at Parkhead, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Ange Postecoglou’s side return to European action when they face the German club this evening, but Jota is a doubt for the game in Glasgow.

Having earned himself a permanent contract at Celtic following his impressive performances while on loan last season, the Portuguese winger has once again been in fine form this term.

Up to now, Jota has started every Scottish Premiership and Champions League game, but his run is under threat following an injury sustained at St Johnstone on Saturday.

With Celtic leading 1-0, Jota came off at half-time after picking up a knock, although Postecoglou revealed that his withdrawal was down to fatigue.

Regardless, the ex-Benfica star wasn’t able to train on Monday, and the Australian said that he faces a late fitness test.

“We’ll make a decision tomorrow [today],” he said. “He’s a bit sore. All the players are important in different ways. It’s just a matter of whether he’s right or not. If he’s right we’ll play him and if not then he’ll miss out.”

He told GIVEMESPORT: “It would obviously be a blow, he’s such a big player for them and it’s such a big fixture.

“They’ll probably give him every opportunity they possibly can for him to be fit for this game, but there’s no doubt that not having Jota would be a massive blow.”

Postecoglou left some key players on the bench against St Johnstone, so regardless of Jota’s fitness, he’ll have some huge decisions to make ahead of RB Leipzig.
