Celtic in rail strike warning on Premiership return as SPFL fans set for travel chaos

Fans face travel chaos as club football returns for the first time in two weeks after the international break with a planned rail strike set to wreak havoc with supporters travelling up and down the country for SPFL fixtures.

ScotRail will be operating only 11 routes on the days of the strike with reduced frequency and for Rangers fans travelling through to the capital for their clash with Hearts at Tynecastle there are just two trains per hour from Glasgow Queen Street to Edinburgh.

Celtic 's Supporter Liason Officer has also warned supporters that Dalmarnock station will not be operational and there is only a limited service from Bellgrove, the next nearest station, after their match against Motherwell with the Steelmen faithful also impacted as they travel through from Lanarkshire to the east end of Glasgow.

There is a full top flight fixture card with Aberdeen hosting Kilmarnock, St Johnstone making the short trip to Dundee United, Hibs at Ross County and St Mirren at home to Livingston. The lower leagues are also in action.

Further strikes are planned on October 8 when St Johnstone host Celtic and St Mirren head to Ibrox in the two biggest games of the day. Network Rail staff are striking over a pay dispute and while this doesn’t involve ScotRail members, it does have an impact on their services as those who are taking industrial action occupy safety-critical roles, making it impossible for ScotRail to run the vast majority of services.
