Celtic in AC Milan 'discussions' as Hoops could face Italian champions in glamour friendly

Serie A champions AC Milan are said to have held 'discussions' over facing Celtic at November's Sydney Super Cup.

The competition that will take place in the middle of World Cup 2022 this winter sparked controversy upon its announcement after Rangers were unveiled as opponents for the Hoops. Dubbed as Australian boss Ange Postecoglou's 'homecoming', the Light Blues pulled out under mounting fan pressure and a replacement has been teased.

A statement on their website reads: "History will be made in Sydney this November in the newly created Sydney Super Cup. Updated details to be announced soon!" One of those suggested teams was reported to be Everton, who are said to be in talks over heading to the other side of the world later this year. The Daily Mail report that Italian giants AC Milan 'have also held discussions' over becoming opponents for the Premiership champions in the later months of 2022.

A-League duo Western Sydney Wanderers and Sydney FC are also taking part in the tournament.

Celtic v Rangers was due to take place in front of around 83,500-seater Accor Stadium, the latter insisting organisers failed 'to fulfil their commitments' to the club.

Postecoglou's team are out in Austria for pre-season training ahead of the new term.
