Aaron Mooy Celtic transfer twist of fate after Rangers urged to sign Australian before Hoops move

Rangers hero Craig Moore says he pushed for countryman Aaron Mooy to sign for Rangers before his move to Celtic.

The Australian international has reunited with former Socceroos boss Ange Postecoglou at the Hoops ahead of their Premiership title defence and Champions League group stage football. Moore knows all about the Aussie battler and admits he was telling the Ibrox club Mooy was one to snap up. He believes it would have been a shrewd signing for Rangers and that opinion hasn't changed now Mooy has arrived at Celtic Park.

He told the Daily Record : "He's a fantastic player, and you touch on experience, I think that is key as to why Aaron has ended up at Celtic. I think it's really good business. I know the player extremely well. He has played at the highest level, and the ability to get about the park and (has) a range of passing and delivery.

"He is a really, really good player. I will be honest, he is one I tried to push to Rangers first. With the quality of the player (it made sense), but with the position that are being filled at Rangers and he is slightly older, maybe it didn't make a lot of sense.

"For Celtic it does. He is a player who Ange knows the player extremely well, and he is a good addition."

Mooy said on his arrival: "I’ve had a few weeks without the ball so I’m looking forward to touching the ball again and getting my fitness up and meeting my new team-mates and the staff.”
