Celtic in £90m money club as booming valuation sees Treble winners mix it with Euro elite

Celtic have been included in the world’s top 50 clubs when it comes to brand recognition.

A survey just published by Brand Finance, the world’s leading brand valuation and strategy consultants, placed the Premiership champions at No.42 on their global list with a valuation of £90.6million. It’s an impressive feat but Abu Dhabi-owned Manchester City are in pole position with £1.2billion, edging Real Madrid into second place.

Barcelona, Manchester United and Liverpool make up the top five and 18 of the top 50 are from the UK, although Celtic are the only Scottish club included. Their rating puts them ahead of Brentford, Athletic Bilbao, Lazio, Union Berlin, Valencia, Porto, Fulham and Brazilians Flamengo. Leicester – relegated from the Premier League in May – sit 27th with a valuation of £144m, summing up the power of England’s top flight.

The figures specifically refer to the current value of earnings and brand reputations and are separate from market value – which is what it may cost to buy the clubs. It’s about the worth of intellectual property, unique to each club.
