Celtic handed Jose Mourinho dossier in wild Brendan Rodgers successor pitch as salary numbers crunched

Celtic should make Jose Mourinho their next boss when Brendan Rodgers leaves the hot seat.

That is the view of talkSPORT pundit Shebahn Aherne as she tipped The Special One to "spice up" the Scottish Premiership with pressure mounting on Irishman Rodgers after the Hoops slipped from the league summit and were leapfrogged by Rangers. The Portuguese boss is currently out of work after being sacked by Roma earlier this season in the wake of defeats to rivals Lazio and AC Milan.

The Rome giants decided to part with the 61-year-old with the side in ninth place in Serie A, despite having previously led them to consecutive European finals in the Europa League and the Conference League - which he would win in 2022. And Aherne ran the numbers on the deal - insisting it would not be a contract that is out of the reaches of the Hoops' spending power.

Aherne said: "I like the idea. He's in his 60's now, he's a legend, I think he could spice up the Scottish Premiership. I think the idea of Jose Mourinho being involved in Old Firms [derby against Rangers] could be total magic and also it could give them a chance of Europe.

"The [s***]housery would be real, it would be utter chaos and we like to see that. Okay, there's lines to the chaos here but I do think that there's something in it there."

Speaking on his previous job, she added: "You look at the job that Jose did at Roma, the proud moments that it brought for him over his career, Celtic is a massive club all over the world, a world-renowned club.

"And then we talk about money, would they be able to afford him? You look at what he earned at Roma, it was around about €6million the salary over the year, [Brendan Rodgers is on] about £3-3.5million but we all know the cost of living
