Celtic hailed as 'one of the great clubs in the world' as American media get hyped for Chelsea friendly

The American media are starting to get hyped already for the visit of Celtic and Chelsea in July.

The box office pre-season friendly between the Hoops and the English Premier League giants was officially announced on Monday night and it's the first of three big summer showdowns teased by Celtic over the last few days. More are to be announced but we now know they will be at the Notre Dame Stadium in Indiana, usually home of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish college American Football team, to take on Chelsea.

Brendan Rodgers is looking forward to taking on an old adversary in Mauricio Pochettino and the hype is starting to build Stateside too. The stadium in Notre Dame first hosted an international club match in 2019 when Liverpool took on Dortmund and the visit of Celtic and Chelsea is getting the big build-up.

247 Sports carry quotes from the University of Notre Dame's sporting director, Pete Bevacqua, who said: “We are thrilled to be able to welcome Chelsea and Celtic to Notre Dame Stadium this summer.

“It is special that Celtic chose to play at Notre Dame in their first trip stateside in over a decade and joining six-time English Premier League champion Chelsea will make for an unbelievable experience. I cannot wait for fans across the world to be able to visit and enjoy Notre Dame and the South Bend community while cheering on their clubs.

“It is such an honour and such a pleasure to bring a wonderful international event here to Notre Dame and the South Bend Community. On July 27, we’re going to have an international friendly match with two of the great clubs, really, in the world."
