Celtic find secret Kasper Schmeichel transfer trump card as dad Peter recruited by insider to solve keeper crisis

Alan McInally has revealed he has attempted to act as a Celtic transfer agent to bring Kasper Schmeichel to the club - by messaging his dad Peter.

The Scottish Premiership champions desperately need a replacement for Joe Hart going into the new campaign after the Parkhead No. 1 retired from the game at the end of last term. Record Sport revealed that Peter Vindahl Jensen is among the top targets at Celtic Park this summer - but Denmark international Schmeichel could present another option to the Hoops ahead of the new season.

The 37-year-old can leave Anderlecht for nothing after the end of his deal and worked with Brendan Rodgers during his time as Leicester City boss. Last week following the pre-season clash with Ayr United, Rodgers refused to be drawn on a potential reunion with the goalkeeper in Glasgow's east end - but former Celtic hero McInally has dipped into his own contacts book.

The former Scotland international has thrown his weight behind Celtic’s proposed switch - after reaching out to Manchester United legend Peter. Speaking to Gambling.com, he said: “I’ll give you a bit of a scoop here. I texted his dad Peter and I’ve no answer yet, so I’ll get back to you on that one! But I was hoping to find out pretty quickly, so I could get myself a little bit of insider information.

“He’s a little bit older now, but he’s hugely experienced and he’s still a really good goalkeeper. So I wouldn't be too perturbed, at all, if Celtic managed to land him. I think he’s a super goalkeeper, he really is. Every time I look at him, because obviously Peter and I go back a long way and I’ve known him for a long time, I just see Pete in him.”
