Celtic fans 'targeted in Zagreb' as club urge vigilance to supporters ahead of Champions League crunch clash

Celtic are warning travelling fans in Zagreb to be vigilant, with supporters already 'targeted' in the Croatian capital.

Thousands of Hoops supporters will head to the Champions League clash with Dinamo Zagreb on December 10, however the club has warned supporters to be careful - saying some of those already in the city having been targeted by rival fans. The Celtic faithful were previously warned to expect tough searches before entering the Croatian side's stadium, despite UEFA launching an official probe into Dinamo's treatment of Borussia Dortmund supporters last month, after fans claimed they were strip-searched.

A statement from the Parkhead club said: "Regrettably, we are aware of a number of incidents where Celtic supporters have been targeted in Zagreb. We are currently looking to liaise with these fans who have been affected and we will offer all the support and assistance we can. Clearly, we would ask all our supporters travelling to be vigilant.

"Celtic encourages our supporters to support the team positively. The club and its supporters are rightly proud of our reputation and we encourage all supporters to help foster this reputation at future fixtures. Zagreb Police advice to supporters is to comply with police advice and stewards at all times and respect the city during your visit."

It advises fans that they are not able to bring in any objects that could be thrown into the Maksimir Stadium, including lighters, coins, chargers for mobile phones and electronic cigarettes or any other belongings that stewards decide could present a danger. Fireworks, smoke bombs, firecrackers and all pyrotechnics are also banned, whilst fans wearing face coverings won't be permitted access to the ground.
