Celtic cup performance was great, we must build on that, says Livi ace

Striker Tete Yengi says Livingston must build on the performance in their 4-2 Scottish Cup quarter-final defeat at Celtic, as they face a fight for Premiership survival.

The big Australian scored his sixth goal of the season to tie the score at 2-2, with Daizen Maeda completing his hat-trick in 86 minutes before Kyogo bagged a fourth in stoppage time.

Yengi’s strike added to a leveller at 1-1 from Dan Mackay as the Lions put in a performance that belies their status as relegation favourites.

And the 23-year-old says that spirit has to be taken into their final nine fixtures, starting against Hibs at Easter Road on Saturday.

He said: “I think we can take a lot from that performance. We have to learn from the mistakes in the game and the goals that we conceded, but we have to take all the positives from the game.

“I think this is something we can build on now, going into the league games, and it’s something that we have to build on.

“Hopefully this week we can get a good result.

“They don’t come easy, no game in this league is. We treat every game one by one, like it’s the hardest one, and go from there.”

Yengi was pleased to smash in his sixth goal in 10 games, and thought Livingston could have won the game, so is disappointed not to progress.

He said: “I’m happy with the goal, of course, but it’s a bit disappointing that we didn’t get the result.

“We fought very hard.

“It’s a hard place to come and we showed great desire and passion, and were unfortunate.

“I thought 4-2 flattered them. The last goal, late in the game, it’s just a scrappy one, so it’s not that we don’t count that one, but it is a cheap one.
