Celtic could face ANOTHER UEFA sanction over Israel banner in Bayern Munich Champions League clash
UEFA could be set to bring the fine hammer down on Celtic again after a display aimed at Israel took place during their Champions League game with Bayern Munich.
The governing body have hit the club with a number of financial sanctions in recent years, most recently fining them £8,400 after a smokebomb was thrown onto the pitch during their clash with Aston Villa. Last season, they were fined £15,200 after fans displayed 'provocative messages' against Atletico Madrid and the club have warned supporters to steer clear of political messaging, urging them not to display Palestinian flags – something which sparked the ire of the Green Brigade and other prominent supporters groups.
The Hoops lost 2-1 to Bayern Munich last night and there was a display at half-time where hundreds of Celtic fans held up red sheets of paper under a banner which read 'show Israel the Red Card' – which remained in place for most of the second half. Now UEFA's control, ethics and disciplinary committee will assess the situation and decide whether to hit the club with another fine.
