Celtic branded 'nobodies outside of Glasgow' as Rangers fans toot European horn in fiery Hotline

The Old Firm tit-for-tat is in full swing this week.

One caller lobbed a grenade into the Hotline by claiming that Celtic have been humiliated in Europe while Rangers have flown the flag for Scotland. That's sparked an explosive reaction on these pages - much to the amusement of the regular who lit the fuse.

George Wilson, West Sussex sniggered: "I'm laughing now at the many hysterical reactions to my comments about Celtic in Europe, which was merely stating the truth and fact that Celtic are nobodies in Europe and in fact outside Scotland.

"Most Rangers fans like myself will own up to our shortcomings in Scotland over the last few years and overall we are way short of where we want and need to be.

"Celtic supporters on the other hand seem to think they are some sort of international super club when in fact results and history show they are nobodies outside the Glasgow gold fish bowl."

Alan Flett backed up his fellow Bluenose: "The Celtic fans having a pop at George Wilson are missing the point. OK, we all know that you are playing in the CL, but you're not competing.

"You only made it to the KO stages last season because the new format made it almost impossible not to. You lose every time you come up against a team of any substance, and you haven't won a two-legged tie for over 20 years.

"At least Rangers can compete at EL level, and we are beating teams who are better than some of the CL sides who are beating Celtic.

"Yes, both Man Utd and Spurs are poor, but surely no fair-minded football fan would claim that they are worse than Young Boys and Bratislava."

Speaking tongue-in-cheek, Gary Stevensonquipped: "It's almost impossible to compare the recent achievements of both Rangers and Celtic in Europe.
