CCTV appeal after robber 'wielding knife' storms Spar shop

A 'knife-wielding robber' raided a Spar store in Greater Manchester before walking away with £200. Staff at the shop on Hollin Lane, in Middleton, were left 'extremely shaken' following an armed robbery on Monday afternoon (August 13).

Officers were called out to the scene shortly after 4pm. Greater Manchester Police says it's believed that a man attempted to force his way into the store armed with a weapon, which is believed to have been a knife.

No injuries were reported following the incident, but the offender is believed to have taken around £200 in cash from the store. GMP has now published two CCTV images of a man they wish to speak to in connection with the incident.

No arrests have been made so far. GMP says enquiries are ongoing and anyone who was in the area at the time, or recognises the man in the image, is being urged to come forward.

Detective Sergeant Harris, from GMP's Rochdale division, said: “Thankfully no one sustained any injuries, but the emotional impact of crimes such as this can be considerable, and the staff have understandably been left extremely shaken up from this. We are following several lines of enquiry and would appeal to anyone who recognises the man in these pictures, or has any information, to get in touch with police immediately.

"We understand that the images are not of the best quality but we are hoping that by releasing them, it may jog memories of those who were in and around the area at the time of the incident.” Forensics officers were seen at the store on Monday evening.

The shop was closed following the raid on Monday, while police worked at the scene. Information can be passed on to GMP
