Main road in Stockport shut both ways after 'police incident'

A road in Stockport was shut off by police this morning (Sunday) following a 'police incident'.

A section of the Heaton Moor Road junction with Wellington Road North in Stockport, was shut off by Greater Manchester Police following an incident, just before 7am.

Pictures show a police car blocking the road. Images taken by the M.E.N. at the scene appear to show a car has hit a bus stop. There's also believed to be fuel on the road as a result.

Stagecoach has posted on X, formerly known as Twitter: "Route 192. Due to a Police Incident at Heaton Moor Road Services towards Manchester will Divert using School Lane, Manchester Road then resume normal route until further notice."

Greater Manchester Police have been contacted for further details. The road reopened at 9am. Any further information will appear in our live blog, which will load below.

Stagecoach have said: "Route 192. The closure at Heaton Moor Road is now lifted and services have returned to normal route. Thank you for your patience."

Images taken by the M.E.N. at the scene appear to show a car has hit a bus stop.

There's also believed to be fuel on the road as a result.
