Casemiro frustration as he's consoled by opponent in missed Man United moments vs Southampton

Manchester United were held to a goalless draw by Southampton on Sunday.

It was a far more entertaining match than the scoreline suggests, with plenty of incidents, namely the red card shown to Casemiro. United will feel aggrieved with the dismissal as the Brazilian won the ball but caught his opponent with his studs on the follow-through. Erik ten Hag's side also should have had a penalty for handball that wasn't given.

Both teams had plenty of chances to grab the win as the game got stretched late on but United did well to come away with a point despite the difficult circumstances. Here are the moments you may have missed from the match.

Casemiro consoled

Casemiro was understandably crestfallen when he was shown the unexpected red card and was visibly upset with the decision. As it's his second red of the season he will now miss the next four matches in a massive blow to United.

His compatriot Antony was quick to console him and walk with him off the pitch as did, ironically, the man who was on the receiving end of his challenge. Carlos Alcaraz looked gutted to see his opponent dismissed and also gave a gesture of support as Casemiro apologised for his tackle. He left the pitch with his head down to a standing ovation, clearly frustrated with the decision.

Varane stokes the atmosphere

United got to the break level but the task of a full 45 minutes with 10 men was clearly going to be difficult and United needed all the help they could get. Raphael Varane knew that and moved to lift the spirits of supporters who had been left very frustrated by the red card.
