Carson Wentz: Commanders QB seemingly slammed by former Colts teammate

Washington Commanders quarterback Carson Wentz appears to have been handed some criticism by one of his former teammates in the form of Indianapolis Colts running back Nyheim Hines.

To say that the Carson Wentz ‘era’ with the Indianapolis Colts was a disaster might be something of an understatement in the grand scheme of things. 

After years of trying to find their next starting quarterback following the shock retirement of Andrew Luck ahead of the 2019 season, the Colts have spent the past few years going through a seemingly endless cycle of men under centre to try and turn their fortunes around. Jacoby Brissett took over Luck in 2019, then in 2020 they brought in Philip Rivers before turning to Carson Wentz in 2021. 

The trade for Wentz – a 2021 third-round draft pick and a 2022 first-round pick – seemed to make sense, as he was reunited with Frank Reich, the Colts head coach who was his offensive coordinator with the Philadelphia Eagles, and at the age of just 28, seemed like he could be the man to lead them not only for 2021 but also beyond. 

That plan however didn’t come to fruition in the end after something of a roller coaster season.

Colts come crumbling down

The team overall put in a rather impressive season, as the defence finished 9th in terms of points allowed, whilst running back Jonathan Taylor led the league in both rushing yards and touchdowns, however some of Wentz’ play ended up costing them big time when it mattered.

Most notably in the final week of the season against the Jacksonville Jaguars when in a win or go home game to qualify for the playoffs, his QB rating was just 4.3 out of a possible 100 in which he threw for just 185 yards and one touchdown whilst throwing one interception and getting
