Carluke Rovers look forward to Scottish Cup debut after SFA licence joy

Carluke Rovers will play in the Scottish Cup this coming season after they became a SFA licenced club last week.

Paul Davies’ side can now look forward to being involved in the country’s flagship competition when the preliminary rounds kick off in August.

At the SFA’s annual general meeting at Hampden , Carluke Rovers match secretary Garry Simpson accepted the SFA Licence Certificate from newly-appointed SFA chairman, Michael Mulraney, on behalf of the club.

A statement from the West of Scotland League Fourth Division club read: “We are delighted to announce to our supporters that the Scottish FA have approved Carluke Rovers as a member club, having met their licence requirements.

“This is a momentous occasion in the club’s history and puts us in a unique position as the first Rovers side to compete in the senior Scottish Cup.

“The membership took effect from the Scottish FA AGM, which was held on Tuesday, June 6.

“This has only been made possible thanks to the efforts and financial support of the club’s committee.

“Our thanks go to Brian Mann, Club Licensing Manager at the Scottish FA, for all the support and guidance from his team during the process and we now look forward to this season’s cup draw.”

The club’s membership success is sure to be a hot topic at Rovers’ AGM this week. The meeting will take place on Thursday at the Carluke Leisure Centre.

It is a 7.45pm start and all are welcome to attend.
