Carluke Rovers appoint former Newmains United duo as new management team

Carluke Rovers have confirmed the appointment of former Newmains United duo Paul Davies and Craig Gupwell as their new management team.

The former Newmains United co-bosses have signed up after a meeting at Carluke and take charge of the West of Scotland Football League Conference B side with immediate effect.

Several candidates were interviewed by the club’s committee but the pair who started management with Newmains in 2018 and led the club to their highest league finish in over a decade have been picked.

Carluke sit 12th in the 15-team division. Davies said: “It is a huge honour for me to represent and manage Carluke Rovers Football Club.

"Not only is it a great club with a 135-year history it’s also my hometown team which I’m very proud of.

“After speaking with the committee last week both Craig and I felt it was a great opportunity and we can’t wait to get started."

Carluke Rovers committee member Steven Kane said: "Paul and Craig come with a wealth of experience in football and the junior game in particular.

“They did an excellent job at their previous club both on and off the pitch and the committee felt that with the current set up at Carluke Rovers and the players under their tutelage they can help us progress by putting a winning team on the pitch.”

Carluke have played more games than most this season with 26 ticked off and their next scheduled match is, ironically, against Newmains on March 26.
