Carlos Tevez is the second-highest paid player in the history of the Chinese Super League

Carlos Tevez has called time on his glittering professional career.

In an emotional interview on Friday evening, the 38-year-old legend stated that he could no longer continue playing football due to the death of his father, Segundo Raimundo, in February 2021.

Tevez has brought an end to a quite incredible 20-year stint in the game, which has seen him light up pitches across the globe.

The Argentine icon excelled in England with West Ham, Manchester United and Manchester City, before a memorable spell at Juventus between 2013 and 2015.

Tevez returned to Boca Juniors for a season after his Italian adventure and then in 2016, he opted to join Chinese Super League side Shanghai Shenhua.

As we detailed HERE, Tevez’s spell in the Far East was an unmitigated disaster, from suffering homesickness to being dropped for a lack of match fitness.

The move certainly wasn’t a disaster for his bank balance, though.

According to figures published by the Daily Star, Tevez is the second-highest paid footballer in Chinese Super League history.

He pocketed over £600,000-a-week, which is more than any player currently operating in the Premier League.

But amazingly, Tevez’s enormous wage at Shanghai Shenhua is still a long way off the pay packet which sits in top spot…

10. Marouane Fellaini | £205,000-a-week (Shandong Luneng)

9. Eder | £213,000-a-week (Jiangsu)

8. Paulinho | £230,000-a-week (Guangzhou Evergrande)

7. Stephan El Shaarawy | £247,000-a-week (Shanghai Shenhua)

6. Graziano Pelle | £263,000-a-week (Shandong Luneng)

5. Hulk | £320,000-a-week (Shanghai SIPG)

4. Cedric Bakambu | £341,000-a-week (Beijing Guoan)
