Carlos Corberan outlines who is deserving of Huddersfield Town play-off success
Following a 1-0 victory over Luton Town on Monday night, Huddersfield Town have booked themselves a place at Wembley for a battle to gain promotion to the top flight.
Although Huddersfield have played in the Premier League in their recent history, since their relegation in 2018-19 season they have come close to a subsequent relegation in the Championship in both the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons.
Their transformation under the management of Carlos Corberan has been brilliant and the fact they are now 90 minutes away from Premier League football again is a sign of their progress.
The Huddersfield boss feels as though the fans are deserving of this, as he told The Yorkshire Post: “In three seasons, they have suffered a lot, so there is nothing that can make me feel more proud to win this game [Monday’s] than to watch how much they enjoyed it with the team and [we] give positive news to our fans.
“It was my target on the first day I arrived at Huddersfield.
“Unfortunately, I could not do it last season and I am happy to help that identify and enjoy things with the team [this year].”
It’s not just the fans Corberan is pleased for, though, as he spoke of his delight saying: “First of all, I am very pleased that the players are going to live this type of moment. Secondly, I have full motivation to play in big games and there cannot be a bigger game than this next one.
“In my mind as soon as the [Luton] game ended, I was thinking about how we prepare for this game [the final].
“But now is the moment to relax to take time and analyse how we will try to perform.”
The Verdict:
Carlos Corberan deserves a lot of credit for the work he has done at Huddersfield and the progress he has made with the team.
They are now only 90 minutes
