Carlos Borges can strengthen transfer position with one more Man City trophy

One Manchester City player will end their 2022/23 campaign just a day before preparations for the next season will begin.

City's senior team played their last game in Istanbul just over a month ago, completing the treble, and will reconvene at the City Football Academy on Monday for the start of pre-season training. After two days, they will fly out to Japan and South Korea for three pre-season games, where Pep Guardiola will likely add some youngsters to his group.

The Elite Development Squad have already begun their pre-season training, albeit without one of their stars from last season - the Premier League 2 Player of the Year, Carlos Borges.

The winger is subject to various transfer rumours after catching the eye with his incredible 29 goals and 18 assists from just 33 youth appearances - averaging a goal contribution every 55 minutes.

That is more than Erling Haaland managed, albeit not at senior level, but with City's best academy talents being sold for between £10m and 15m this summer, it's natural that Borges is being linked with Premier League clubs either on loan or on a permanent transfer.

Ideally, Borges would be hoping for a senior call-up to the pre-season tour, hoping to impress Pep Guardiola just as Rico Lewis did last year. With three games and fitness-building the priority, there would surely be minutes available if he was in the squad.

Borges, though, has a more important assignment to think about before his club chances, as he is part of the Portugal squad in the under-19 European Championship final on Sunday against Italy.
