Carlos Bocanegra 'interviews' for Rangers director of football role as Ibrox chiefs turn to 'headhunting agency'

Former Rangers defender Carlos Bocanegra is in the mix to become the club's next sporting director.

The Ibrox side are on the lookout for a successor to Ross Wilson who departed for Nottingham Forest back in April. The Athletic state the 44-year-old is one of the names in the frame to replace him. Bocanegra is currently the vice president of Major League Soccer side Atlanta United and spent over two seasons at Ibrox as a player with the second being a loan Racing Santander with Rangers in the Scottish Third Division.

And now Bocanegra – dubbed Captain America for his leadership role for the USA national team – could return to Glasgow a decade after his departure as a player. Manager Michael Beale has been steaming ahead in the transfer market this summer with four new signings in Sam Lammers, Jack Butland, Dujon Sterling and Kieran Dowell. The same report claims the Ibrox side have turned to a headhunting agency to tie down Wilson's replacement.
