Carlo Ancelotti confirms Casemiro transfer wish to join Manchester United

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that midfielder Casemiro has asked to leave the club in the summer transfer window.

The 30-year-old has agreed personal terms with Manchester United over a proposed €60million transfer, though there is still work to be done before a transfer can be completed.

Casemiro would need to gain a work permit and pass a medical examination before he could be presented as a new United player, and he has already missed the Premier League registration cut-off to be involved against Liverpool on Monday night.

Real have signed France midfielders Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni over the last year to offset the departure of the veteran, while Luka Modric has also signed a contract extension.

It means the La Liga giants are in a position where they can cope without the Brazilian international and manager Ancelotti has now confirmed that he has officially asked to leave.

"I talked to (Casemiro) this morning," he said on Friday. "He wants to try a new challenge, a new opportunity. I and the club understand it. With what he's done at this club and the person he is, we have to respect it.

"There are talks right now. Nothing is official, but he wants to leave."
