Cardiff City return to home soil this afternoon looking to further cement their place at the top of the League One table as they host Wigan Athletic.

Brian Barry-Murphy’s side begin the day three points clear at the top of the table, having emerged from the busy Christmas and New Year period with seven points from clashes against Exeter City, Stevenage and Wycombe Wanderers.

Cardiff’s home form has been a major pillar of their promotion push, with 10 wins from 12 league games at Cardiff City Stadium, including victories in each of their last six. However, defensive consistency remains an area for improvement, with just two clean sheets recorded in their last nine outings in all competitions.

Wigan arrive in south Wales sitting 14th in the table, a position that perhaps belies their resilience. Ryan Lowe’s side have lost only seven of their 23 league fixtures but nine draws have stalled their progress, leaving them eight points off the play-offs.
