Cardiff City are set to miss out on Stoke City striker Sam Surridge.

The Bluebirds had looked to snap up the 23-year-old on loan until the end of the season, but could now miss out on the former Swansea City loanee, with Nottingham Forest now understood to be ready to hijack the move.

Forest are understood to have made a permanent bid for Surridge, providing a blow to City's attempts to fill the void left by Kieffer Moore, who looks set to join Bournemouth in a move that could be worth as much as £5m.

Cardiff got two deals over the line last weekend, and it remains to be seen whether there will be any more incomings before the day is through.

Alfie Doughty and Jordan Hugill became Bluebirds on Saturday and Sunday respectively to give manager Steve Morison more attacking options, with the former getting his Cardiff career off to the best possible start with a goal on his debut against Nottingham Forest.

Morison revealed on Friday that he wanted two more in the door before the 11pm deadline and he’ll be a happy man on that front.

But there's clearlly still more work to be done.
