Cardiff City set to swoop for 23-year-old Stoke City player

Cardiff City’s search for a new striking addition has led them to Stoke’s Sam Surridge, with BBC Sport reporting that a deal could soon be completed for the player.

The forward won’t be allowed to leave on a permanent basis though, having only just joined the Potters right at the beginning of the current campaign. Instead, he will be allowed to spend the rest of the season with the Bluebirds on a short-term deal.

He’s made 20 league appearances under Michael O’Neill so far this year but only six of those have been starts – and even though he has also chipped in with two goals and an assist along the way, it looks like he doesn’t feature in the boss’ plans for the remainder of the season. Even though he was signed in the summer, it looks as though he isn’t an important part of the squad yet for the Potters, with the player expendable for now.

Now, rather than having to rely on cameos from the bench for Stoke, he could instead be given much more regular gametime at Cardiff. Having also bagged goals for Bournemouth and Swansea in the second tier in the past too, there is no reason why he couldn’t provide the extra firepower that the Bluebirds need.

While it is only a temporary fix for Cardiff, as he will only be with them until the end of the season, he could certainly be a solid option to help them try and steer clear of relegation for the next half of the campaign.

Sam Surridge is a very good signing for Cardiff, even if it is only until the end of the year. The striker has played in the Championship frequently before and regular gametime could get even more out of the forward.

He’s scored goals and looked lively even based on the scraps he has to work with at his various clubs so far. It’s a surprise to see
