Cardiff City 0-0 Blackburn Rovers: Bluebirds left frustrated in goalless draw

Cardiff City's frustrating run continued on Tuesday night with a goalless draw against Blackburn Rovers.

The Bluebirds were comfortably the better side, but their major Achilles heel, putting the ball in the back of the net, proved to be their downfall again - despite a couple of pretty decent chances.

It was encouraging to see Cardiff have a bit more energy, both in attack and defence, from the off. They were visibly pressing higher and as a result won the ball back in more dangerous areas. That being said, that quality in the final third still eluded them.

Rubin Colwill continued his positive form with a few lovely touches and moments to get Cardiff into dangerous areas, while Karlan Grant looked a real livewire down that left-hand side.

City's first, and really only, clear-cut chance of the first half came when they did win a ball back in the middle of the park and Manolis Siopis slid in a great ball down the channel. Grant zipped past Dominic Hyam and hammered a point-blank shot on goal, which was saved well by Aynsley Pears.

Blackburn knew they had to take the sting out of the game and did everything they could after the 30-minute mark to slow Cardiff down, which, in truth, resulted in a pretty dull final quarter of an hour of a goalless first half.

The second half began with a decent City attack down the right, which saw Josh Bowler's low shot tipped around the corner by Pears. The resultant corner fell to the feet of Grant, who, 20 yards out, struck one nicely, only to see it tipped over the bar.
