Cardiff City made it three wins in a row thanks two Famara Diedhiou's first goal for the club in a narrow 1-0 win over Huddersfield Town.

After triumphs over Stoke City and Bristol City, the Bluebirds came into this one with some real confidence again - and it showed when Diedhiou turned home a smart chance in the first half to put the Bluebirds in front.

The second half was a tighter contest, with both sides enjoying a number of opportunities in an increasingly open game. And Danny Ward, formerly of this parish, of course, will be ruing the opportunity he missed from point-blank range late on.

But it won't matter to Cardiff, who have now picked up 13 points from the last 15 available.

It was a cagey start to the affair in the Welsh capital, with both teams affording their opponent a lot of time, space and respect out of possession. It meant a dearth of real chances in the opening half an hour or so as the teams felt each other out.

Having said that, the opening exchanges were sprinkled with the odd moment of quality. One such moment came through Perry Ng, who waltzed his way through the Terriers' midfield before laying the ball into Karlan Grant's path. Grant chopped inside and smacked one low, but Lee Nicholls kept it out at his near post with a strong palm.

For every Cardiff chance, though, there was an attack from Huddersfield. It was akin to watching a basketball match in that sense. Sorba Thomas was the tormentor-in-chief for the visitors, with his well-aimed crosses causing the odd scare at the back for Cardiff, including one moment when Dimitrios Goutas almost turned the ball into his own net.
