Cardiff Bay police incident: A4232 shut and public urged to avoid area - latest updates

A police incident has closed a major road in Cardiff, with members of the public being urged to avoid an area of Cardiff Bay.

In an alert issued late on Sunday night, South Wales Police said the A4232 is closed in both directions between the Tunnel and the Ferry Road/Barry exit. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and to take an alternative route.

In a Tweet at 10.40pm, the South Wales Road Policing Unit said: "Avoid the area. Due to an ongoing police incident the A4232 is closed in both directions in Cardiff Bay.

"Closures are in place between the Tunnel and the Ferry Road/Barry exit. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and to take an alternative route. Thank you for your patience."

There are reports that a helicopter has been circling the area for 'ages' - with 'car horns' and 'lots of fireworks' being heard near the scene.

On Twitter. Leona Jayne said: "Sounds horrendous out there! Car horns, helicopter been up for ages and now lots of fireworks from the same direction. Hope people are ok!"
