Caoimhin Kelleher tells Celtic his transfer non negotiable as goalkeeper gets honest over Liverpool future

Goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher admits he wants to be first-choice at a club - even if that means leaving Liverpool with Celtic touted with a move.

With Joe Hart hanging up his gloves at the end of the campaign Brendan Rodgers is on the look-out for a new No. 1 this summer - with Irish international Kelleher consistently being linked with a move to the Scottish Premiership champions who are said to be among his admirers. Having acted as Alisson's Anfield understudy in recent seasons, the 25-year-old enjoyed rare run in the starting line-up following an injury to the Brazilian.

Jurgen Klopp showed his faith in Kelleher during the spell as he racked up 26 appearances in all competitions - including proving to be the hero in the League Cup penalty shoot-out victory over Chelsea. And with approaches expected to test the Reds resolve to keep the shot-stopper this summer, Kelleher has told potential suitors he wants to be the go-to 'keeper between the sticks should he leave the English Premier League giants.

Looking back on his season with Liverpool, Kelleher told The Athletic: “It was the first time in my career that I’d had a spell like that and I loved it. I thrived on it. I’d been waiting for a moment like that. It was a massive opportunity for me to be Liverpool’s No 1 for that long.

“It was my time to show the level I believe I can perform at and the level people at the club think I’m able to play at. I proved that I’m good enough to play in the Premier League — I’m comfortable there. I’ve always had that belief in myself. Proving it to people was satisfying.
