Canelo Alvarez's future: Eddie Hearn confirms push for Dmitry Bivol rematch

Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has confirmed plans to try and book a rematch between Canelo Alvarez and Dmitry Bivol.

This past Saturday night in Las Vegas, Canelo Alvarez finally put an end to his rivalry with Gennady Golovkin. While the fight itself didn’t match up to their two previous encounters, the fact remains that Canelo was able to get his hand raised via unanimous decision to retain his WBA (Super), WBC, IBF, WBO, and The Ring super middleweight titles.

The win was a much-needed one and restored some momentum for Alvarez, although the 32-year-old will be hungry to prove that he’s still the same killer he once was – something he wasn’t really able to showcase in the trilogy fight.

One contest that always feels like it’s going to be there is the proposed rematch between himself and Dmitry Bivol, the man who handed him just his second defeat in pro boxing.

Eddie Hearn, who helped promote the first bout against the Russian, used a recent interview to confirm that the Bivol match-up is what they’re going to be targeting.

“Dmitry Bivol is the target. Obviously, he’ll want to avenge that defeat, but Bivol has a very tough fight against Zurdo Ramirez on November 5th.

“We’ll have to see if he gets through that, but I think for Canelo Alvarez, that’ll always be in the back of his mind to see if he can avenge that defeat.

“I don’t think that Canelo Alvarez is looking at 175 as a division that he wants to necessarily go back to and win belts, but he wants Zurdo Ramirez to beat Bivol for Mexico, but he also wants Bivol to win so he can get a chance to rematch him.

“Don’t rule out the possibility of Bivol moving down to 168 to challenge for the undisputed titlebecause he wants to do that as well. We have to see, but
