Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez beats Gennady Golovkin: Judges’ scorecards revealed

Canelo Alvarez returned to the ring for his second fight of 2022 to complete his thrilling trilogy with Gennady Golovkin last night, taking to the T-Mobile Arena once again in Las Vegas.

It’s four years since their last fight, with Canelo getting the victory in the second bout between the two in Vegas in 2018 via a majority decision.

It followed up the controversy of the opening bout which was once again in the same venue, finishing in a draw. However, two victories since then has emphatically proven his dominance over the Kazakhstani.

The Mexican remains the undisputed super middleweight champion after a classy performance on Saturday night, with his opponent unable to keep up with him. It’s now two defeats in Golovkin’s career, both at the hands of Canelo.

When a fight goes to the judges, it can always cause controversy, with many thinking Golovkin was the victor in the opening tied bout, and thinking the same in the second clash between the rivals.

Obviously plenty thought Canelo won, but points can always split opinion, although a second win suggests that he has the number of Golovkin in the ring.

His speed and power was far too much for his fierce rivalry, although it ended in classy fashion, with the pair embracing in the ring.
