Canadian GP: George Russell reveals lack of porpoising in positive update

George Russell revealed that the Mercedes was not porpoising during the Canadian Grand Prix in a positive enough-sounding update.

The Briton maintained his record of finishing inside the top five at every race this year by coming home in fourth in Montreal, and it looked as though the W13 had decent race pace.

Indeed, Lewis Hamilton finished third to cap off some turnaround from the beginning of the weekend where he had called the car ‘undriveable.’

Clearly, there is pace in the Mercedes but it is all about finding the right set-up for it and they will hope that they can do that at Silverstone next time out.

Promisingly, Russell revealed that they did not suffer any porpoising with the car in Montreal, and it was just the bouncing issues to do with the ride height that was more of a problem:

“It was definitely bumpy out there. We weren’t porpoising, we were just bouncing around a lot down the straights, just hitting the ground so it’ll be a good sleep again tonight for sure!”

Mercedes obviously won’t be counting any chickens given previous good races have been followed by drop offs, as in the case with Barcelona and then Monaco, but each time they get a result like this they will feel as though they are on the right path.

Silverstone awaits in two weeks, then, and they’ll be hoping that the smooth surface of the track there will play into their hands and allow them to set the car up in a way that will allow for good performance.
