Canada's Sarah Mitton wins shot put at Continental Tour stop in New York

Canada's world indoor champion Sarah Mitton was the sole athlete to surpass 20 metres in the women's shot put and she did so twice, throwing 20.15 and 20.07 metres to eventually win by more than a metre at the World Athletics Continental Tour stop in New York City on Sunday.

Olympic silver medallist Raven Saunders was second with 19.11m.

Jamaican star Elaine Thompson-Herah, the two-time defending Olympic champion in the 100m and 200m, had to be helped from the track after appearing to hurt her Achilles tendon in the women's 100m.

Shev burst out of the blocks at Icahn Stadium and was in the mix before starting to fade midway through the race. The 31-year-old began limping near the finish line. She took off her right spike and later was carried away from the area around the track.

Favour Ofili of Nigeria won the race in a season-best time of 11.18 seconds. Thompson-Herah finished last in 11.48.
