Canada's Isabelle Weidemann skates to silver medal at World Cup in Norway
Canadian speed skater Isabelle Weidemann won a silver medal in the women's 3,000 metres on Saturday at a World Cup stop in Hamar, Norway.
The three-time Olympic medallist finished in four minutes 1.30 seconds, just ahead of the skater she was paired with, Ragne Wiklund. The Norwegian crossed the line in 4:01.41 to earn bronze.
Dutch skater Marijke Groenewoud won the race in a time of 4:00.95.
The result marks Weidemann's second individual distance podium of the season after earning a silver medal in the women's 5,000m in Heerenveen, Netherlands earlier this month.
Valerie Maltais, of La Baie, Que., finished just off the podium, crossing the line in 4:03.62 for a fourth-place finish. Fellow Canadian Ivanie Blondin, of Ottawa, was 10th in 4:07.08.
Also Saturday, Beatrice Lamarche of Quebec City placed 10th in the women's 1,000 metres in 1:16.35, finishing 1.96 seconds behind race winner Miho Takagi of Japan.
