Canada's curlers stay unbeaten in mixed doubles before facing reigning Olympic champions

The Canadian mixed doubles curling team of Brett Gallant and Jocelyn Peterman defeated Norway 6-3 on Thursday afternoon at the Winter Olympics in Italy.

The husband-and-wife duo from Chestermere, Alta., never trailed in the round-robin matchup at the Cortina Curling Olympic Stadium.

Canada took the lead with a deuce in the third end and held Kristin Skaslien and Magnus Nedregotten to a single in the seventh for a 5-3 lead. Canada had hammer in the eighth end, and Peterman made a draw inside the eight-foot ring for the victory.

Canada (2-0) opened round-robin play a day earlier with a tidy 10-5 victory over Czechia.

Gallant and Peterman were scheduled to play defending champions Stefania Constantini and Amos Mosaner of Italy in the evening session.

Mixed doubles play continues through the medal games on Feb. 10. Traditional four-player team play begins the next day.

The Ottawa-based rink skipped by Rachel Homan is representing Canada in the women's competition. Skip Brad Jacobs will wear the Maple Leaf for the Calgary-based men's side.

Canada hasn't won Olympic curling gold since the mixed doubles team of John Morris and Kaitlyn Lawes were victorious in 2018 at Pyeongchang, South Korea.
