Cammy Devlin hopes new Hearts deal includes silver bonus as he accepts displays have been far from gold standard
Cammy Devlin was delighted Hearts hit the button on his contract extension – and he’d be even happier to deliver a trophy to Tynecastle.
The Jambos activated an extra 12 months on his current deal to run until 2025 and talks are set to crack on over an even longer commitment. Devlin is thrilled to stick around and he has set his sights on proper on-field success. Hearts are bang in the mix for the League Cup ahead of Tuesday's quarter-final clash at Kilmarnock and the Aussie ace said: “Silverware is the obviously the next step.
“I know just how important it is for everyone. For me, to bring a trophy back to Tynecastle would definitely be the highlight of my time here. Playing in Europe and being in the Cup Final were such good experiences. But to actually bring something back and go through Edinburgh with a trophy would top it off.
"This group of boys have achieved a lot of success since I’ve been here and to have a trophy to show for it would be the best thing ever. You’re still a long way away but you feel like it’s right there and you are within touching distance.
“The game against Kilmarnock is so important, it will be tough, they are a well-organised team but it’s about us taking the game plan we’re given. We’ve got so much belief in what we are being told but it’s about us as players taking that responsibility on and making sure we get the win and move one step closer to bringing a trophy back.”
Devlin didn’t need any arm-twisting to agree to the new deal. He said: “I was aware a few weeks ago the club was going to take up the option of another year.
“I obviously knew it was in my contract. When you sign there’s a lot of stuff you probably don’t read but that was something I definitely looked at!
