Cambuslang Rangers still looking to strengthen for Premier Division test

Cambuslang Rangers co-boss Billy Campbell says they’re looking for at least two more players as they prepare for a massive challenge in the West of Scotland Premier League.

Campbell says it’s a jump of at least two divisions from winning the Conference B title last season, but a challenge they’re looking forward to meeting head-on.

He has revealed the club is talking to some players just now and have identified forward areas as those most in need of strengthening for their top flight test.

Camby will learn their league fixtures on Friday and Campbell said: “We’ve got about six or seven in just now, we’ve got the boys we’ve re-signed, so we’ve probably got another two or three to come in, that [fellow co-boss] Paul [McColl] and I are talking to.

“We’re talking to a couple just now. We maybe need two or three to get us back up to the numbers, but it’s looking okay.

“We’re talking to another centre-half just now, first and foremost, and then we’ll get another couple of guys, maybe another one up front.

“I don’t think we’re short in any of these areas, but we like to have enough bodies in there, because you know how it can change.

“You take a photograph of the first pre-season session, then another two months in and there are probably six or seven changes from what you had – it takes that bit of time to settle.

“Last season was quite good from that perspective – we ran with the squad predominantly, from start to finish. That’s the plan again, so we don’t have too big a squad, and too many changes that have to be made.”

Rangers won Conference B by 15 points and a goal-difference of +32 over St Cadoc’s, and while Campbell says pressure is off in terms of predictions, there’s plenty in-house.
