Cambuslang Rangers player earns awards hat-trick as gaffers pick his teammate for their prize

Cambuslang Rangers have crowned their star performers after their title-winning campaign in West of Scotland Football League Conference C.

The Somervell Park side cruised to the championship, wrapping things up last month.

And after Saturday’s West of Scotland Cup win over Craigmark on penalties, the club hosted their player of the year awards.

Fernhill forward Scott Williamson, who netted 50 goals this term, swept up the main prize along with Players’ Player of the Year and the top goalscorer accolade.

But it was Scott Anson who was picked as Manager’s Player of the Year by co-bosses Billy Campbell and Paul McColl.

The striker has moved to centre-back this year and his manager reckons doing so effectively and without a fuss merits recognition.

Explained his choice in the manager's vote, Campbell said: “We debated it between us with regards to who we would give the award to. The truth of the matter is we haven’t had a bad player this season.

“We genuinely haven’t. Everyone has stepped up and been exceptional.

"We have some real quality around the team but we have taken Scott from up front to a centre-back.

“He’s still contributing goals. His attitude and application is spot on.

"He’s a very nice lad and very mature in his football mind. With the support he’s given us, playing and training, we thought he deserved it.”

Goal of the season went to Tony Stevenson for his second strike of the game against Larkhall Thistle.

Goalkeeper Andy Wilson picked up a special achievement award for keeping a club record eight consecutive clean sheets during the campaign, while veteran striker John Gemmell received a framed photo in recognition of his 100 goals at Junior/WOSFL level.

Cambuslang are now awaiting a date to play their WOSFL
